Amazing Experience

The modern temple is built on the site of the ancient Kothagantota, the Entrance to the King’s Palace. The well outside the rampart confirms the existence of a pass or gate at this location. This place is referenced in many epistolary documents from the Kotte Period. The temple's construction is on land believed to be the location of the Royal Storage / Treasury of King Parakramabahu VI (1412-1467) of the Kotte Kingdom. This location was significant as it was the closest pass to the palace, and on the opposite side of Diyavannā lay the village of Battaramulla, where the palace cooks resided.
